Ambarish Karmalkar’s Bio:
Dr. Ambarish Karmalkar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Rhode Island. He is a climate scientist studying regional climate change and its impacts on human and natural resources using observations and numerical models. To make his climate research accessible and actionable, Ambarish collaborates with a diverse range of professionals, including ecologists, hydrologists, state officials, and managers. Ambarish is a recipient of the 2024 Science Communication fellowship, an award designed to prepare the next generation of science communicators from diverse backgrounds.
Description of the Event:
Dr. Ambarish Karmalkar will discuss the current state of the global climate and the reasons behind rapid climatic shifts occurring worldwide. He will then describe how global climate change affects New England, shedding light on its impacts on our ecological, hydrological, and cultural resources. Additionally, he will delve into his recent research on exceptional warming occurring in the coastal Northeast, discussing the consequences and proposed solutions–both at a global and local level–to mitigate and adapt to projected changes.
